Entry 11 – Blah Psychology

Blah blah blah

Does anyone think the name Blah Psychology is somewhat flippant for a psychology practice? I suppose that’s the drawcard. How to help people with their mental health without taking it too seriously?! I think I like it.

But that may only be because at first I thought I hated it and when my wife read the draft of this post, she immediately texted me and said she would want to go there and because she is heaps cooler than me I had to re-think my attitude and then re-write this post. (It was otherwise another lame one-sentence entry.)

Nevertheless, it made me wonder if anyone else plays dumb contrary games with themselves? If my first instinct is ‘that sucks’ or ‘eww, that’s so ugly’ or ‘goddamn that’s shit’…my interest is immediately piqued and I tell myself to dig deeper into why I hated it initially, which usually ends with me doing a 180 and liking it for the sake of its shit-ness/ugliness/sucky-ness.

Stubborn much? Even with myself? Why yes, yes I am.

Not quite the same thing, but if I am watching any kind of competition, I’ll go for the losing side. Who doesn’t love an under-dog story? Or maybe I am just a glutton for punishment. I mean, I barrack for the Melbourne Demons (AFL for those of you not in the know) and let me tell you, we demons supporters are rather used to barracking for the losing side. Ever hopeful is the more optimistic frame of mind. Very used to disappointment is the resigned version. So ok Blah Psychology, stead forth (what does that mean?) and meld the minds of your blah patients with their blah problems and blah disorders. Go you good things!

P.s. I do not know anyone who works at Blah Psychology, or attends Blah Psychology, nor am I a patient of Blah psychology, or know anyone who is. I don’t even know where it is. Please do not misread this post as a whinge against their practice. I’m sure they are great.
